HYSTERIA
Hysteria is a jewelry and accessories label founded by Jackie, drawing inspiration from women past and present and the long history of policing the female spirit. From nineteenth-century etiquette books instructing women to “speak gently, laugh softly” to modern expectations to temper ambition, emotion and self-expression, Hysteria challenges the idea that being “too much” is something to suppress.
Jackie grew up in the Midwest, spending weekends at her local bead shop creating pieces to wear to school, before studying at Pratt Institute in New York. There, adornment became her form of self-expression: armor, voice and joy.
The inspiration behind Hysteria is deeply personal, shaped by Jackie’s own experiences and her sister’s diagnosis with a debilitating illness historically dismissed as “female hysteria.” Blending vintage nostalgia with a contemporary point of view, Hysteria creates pieces for women who embrace their maximalism and refuse to dim their light.
